Karen Hertz-Sumnicht
My artistic practice conveys my responses to life in a visual journey. The art is inclusive of shape, line, texture, and color. These layers create a narrative of my experiences and my story. Mark-making across the surface is both mindful and meditative. Busyness, business, volunteering, family, and commitments have overwhelmed my time to create and focus. I struggle to bring in quiet, calm, peace, and serenity. I am looking forward to exploring this recent experience by including references to the figure, land, animals, and shelter. These themes float in and out of the layers. Eliminating clutter and chaos by adding and subtracting information is key to getting to the core.
