Nicole Herbst
As both an artist and educator, my creative journey is deeply rooted in exploration, connection, and the natural beauty that surrounds me. With a BFA from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, and master’s degrees in education and pastoral ministry, my work is informed by a lifelong commitment to learning, teaching, and community engagement. For over thirty years, I have taught in the Sturgeon Bay School District while actively pursuing my own artistic practice.
My work centers around mixed media, though I’ve recently been focused on felting and watercolor. I find joy in experimenting with a wide range of materials—whether it’s weaving, drawing, acrylic painting, or incorporating found elements from nature. Much of my inspiration is drawn from the landscapes and flora of Door County, where I live and work. I am continually moved by the textures, colors, and quiet rhythms of the natural world and strive to reflect that magic through my art.
In addition to creating, I am passionate about sharing the artistic process with others. I teach workshops at Articipation, The Naked Sheep, and Yore Place, as well as private sessions in my home studio in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. I’ve had the honor of creating several commissioned pieces and currently have work exhibited in multiple Door County galleries. A recent highlight was a solo show at the Dröhus, with additional exhibitions scheduled at other local venues.
Through both making and teaching, I aim to help others see the beauty in everyday surroundings and explore their own creative voices. Art, for me, is not just a personal expression but a shared experience—one that fosters connection, reflection, and inspiration.
