David Ray
I am primarily a plein air painter and am excited by the varieties of weather, light, seasons, terrain, and people in Door County. I paint outside year-round.
Prior to beginning a painting on site, I immerse myself in the location. I often visit a site several times in order to experience it in various weather conditions and hours of the day. These experiences are meditations that lead to a painting.
I utilize the tools of design, value, color, temperature, and brush strokes to convey the qualities of wind, light, color, and the inspiration that the scene has provided to me.
