Marc Anderson
Working within the tradition of representational landscape painting, I seek to portray the landscape with honesty, sensitivity, and reverence. Careful attention is given to subtle shifts in value and color temperature, particularly as they describe the interaction between objects and light. While my work emphasizes the physical qualities of light, color, and form, it is ultimately intended to foster a visceral connection between viewer and place.
My paintings are built through layered mark-making, combining passages of impasto paint with thin, transparent washes. This interplay creates a dynamic movement of light across the surface, as transparent layers take on a luminous quality. Through these painterly abstractions, forms gradually emerge, allowing individual marks to coalesce into a unified sense of place and reality.
