Shan Bryan-Hanson creates intricate works of art that celebrate fragile and beautiful species through a mixed media practice grounded in painting. Each piece stems from a specific experience: an encounter with a barred owl, watching a starling murmuration, standing amidst bees as they swarm. She layers references to the art history, the natural world, architectural elements, and geometry.

Her gallery in downtown Sturgeon Bay is celebrating its second season this year. Prior to opening Shan Bryan-Hanson Studio + Gallery, Shan had a career in higher education, working as an art curator and painting professor.
