Chelsea Littman
Chelsea Littman explores texture and surface through the medium of hot glass, enjoying the process in a variety of ways including glassblowing, sculpting, sand casting and enamels, she is interested in curves and conjuring beauty inspired by the earth element and her own corporeal form. She has an ongoing practice sculpting small bottle shapes, an object that is relatively simple and yet requires an immense amount of skill, each shape magnifying and reflecting its surroundings in a different way, each like a person, individual and unique but part of the same family, each with shoulders and necks, elegant and lovely. A similar practice grew out of this, sculpting small Venus shapes, exploring the feminine figure and all their differences, that feel nice in the hand and are wonderful to hold. When she does use color, it is often on the outside layer, the surface, and adds a more tactile element to the piece. There is a playfulness to her glasswork and a curiosity to see what else the material can do and give. She looks for pleasant surprises and loves learning.
As studio manager and assistant at Popelka Trenchard Glass Studio, Littman has a space to continue her exploration in glass and grow as an artist in a vibrant community of talented supportive creatives like herself. She has been pursuing hot glass since graduating with her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Alfred University in New York in 2011. Sturgeon Bay has been her home since 2017. Her studio space at the Tambourine Lounge has been a blessing and a sanctuary and is where she does the planning, drawing, writing and photography of her glass.
